2022 Essay Contest

“Cultivating Today’s Youth to become Tomorrow’s Leaders”

Purpose: To provide guidance and communicative skills with public speaking experience, within the context of a theme. To provide middle and high school students with an opportunity to express themselves, enhance their public speaking skills, promote self-confidence, educational enhancement and facilitate character building.

ESSAY TOPIC

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

"Define what the word “responsibility” means to you. Then, write about what you feel most responsible for.”

The Essay Contest will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2PM virtually via ZOOM.

Eligibility: Contestants are students of Fort Bend County, Texas.

Length of Essay: Each contestant shall deliver a prepared Essay, which must be an original effort. The Essay must be at least 400 words and no more than 500 words. All entries must be of good taste, free from profane language and must reflect a positive image.

Presentation of Essay: Each contestant shall deliver the essay in a

  1. MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENT
  2. 12pt ARIAL FONT
  3. CORRECT SPELLING, GRAMMAR AND SYNTAX

Judging and awarding points will be based on the following criteria:

ESSAY = 100 points

Title page (5 Points)
Font (12pt, Arial) (5 Points)
Numbered pages (5 Points)
Double-Spacing (5 Points)
Minimun Number of Words (400-500 count) (10 Points)
Cite Source Page (10pts)
Spelling (20 Points)
Organization/Flow (20 Points)
Grammar/Punctuation/Syntax (20 Points)

TOTAL POSSIBLE IS 100 POINTS

Monetary Prizes will be awarded $350 (Tentative):

1st place – LAPTOP

2nd place – $250

3rd place – $100

NOTE: The decisions of the judges are final, and no changes, alterations, or recalculations will take place after the results have been certified by the contest committee members and validated by the chairman of the contest committee.
